Modeling neural spatiotemporal behavior

چکیده
We study some aspects of the dynamic neural .lter (DNF), a recurrent network that produces spatiotemporal sequences in reaction to sets of constant inputs. The biological motivation for this study came from the observation of spatiotemporal patterns in the locust antennal lobe. Some of the aspects of these results can be reformulated and characterized by the DNF. Studying deterministic dynamics we .nd di5erences between low and high numbers of neurons. For low numbers there exists clear correlation between distances in input space and edit distances of spatiotemporal sequences. For large numbers of neurons we observe divergence between close-by spatiotemporal sequences. Nonetheless neuronal correlations survive for small changes in input space. c © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Spike timing dependent plasticity: mechanisms, significance, and controversies
Long-term modification of synaptic strength is one of the basic mechanisms of memory formation and activity-dependent refinement of neural circuits. This idea was purposed by Hebb to provide a basis for the formation of a cell assembly. Repetitive correlated activity of pre-synaptic and post-synaptic neurons can induce long-lasting synaptic strength modification, the direction and extent of whi...

متن کاملEmbodied models of delayed neural responses: Spatiotemporal categorization and predictive motor control in brain based devices
In order to respond appropriately to environmental stimuli, organisms must integrate over time spatiotemporal signals that reflect object motion and self-movement. One possible mechanism to achieve this spatiotemporal transformation is to delay or lag neural responses. This paper reviews our recent modeling work testing the sufficiency of delayed responses in the nervous system in two different...
متن کاملEFFECTS OF THE HARDENED NICKEL COATING ON THE FATIGUE BEHAVIOR OF CK45 STEEL: EXPERIMENTAL, FINITE ELEMENT METHOD, AND ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK MODELING
Hardened nickel coating is widely used in many industrial applications and manufacturing processes because of its benefits in improving the corrosion fatigue life. It is clear that increasing the coating thickness provides good protection against corrosion. However, it reduces the fatigue life. Thus, applying a thin layer of coated nickel might give an acceptable corrosion protection with minim...
متن کاملApplication of multilayer perceptron neural network and support vector machine for modeling the hydrodynamic behavior of permeable breakwaters with porous core
In this research, the application of multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural networks and support vector machine (SVM) for modeling the hydrodynamic behavior of Permeable Breakwaters with Porous Core has been investigated. For this purpose, experimental data have been used on the physical model to relate the reflection and transition coefficients of incident waves as the output parameters to the wid...
